Leukemia Cup Video

 '
I am making my directing and producing debut with a highlight video of the 2008 Leukemia Cup Regatta at FBYC. I used my Canon SD870IS to take a bunch of short clips of the regatta, party and awards. Both low quality and high quality clips are available.

I also have some photos that are posted here.

iTunes Output to SPDIF

This is as much of a note to myself for future usage as well as for anyone else with the same problem. I finally figured out how to get iTunes to use the optical (S/PDIF) output on my computer to play music on my stereo. I am running Windows Vista 64-bit on a Asus P5K motherboard with built-in optical output. In the past I could only get Windows Media Center to work, but that will only play the MP3's which is about half of the collection and none of the newer and better music.

To make it work:
Open QuickTime Player
Go to Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences
Select the Audio Tab
Select the "Safe mode (waveOut only)" option and click apply.
Close QuickTime and iTunes and relaunch iTunes.

I had a pretty crazy weekend at the Sunshine Open sailing through a rainstorm in 20-30 knot gusts while returning to Annapolis. Read about it on the Laser District 11 website.

Google Talk Status to Twitter

Having recently gotten a Blackberry I've been looking to sync as much of it as possible to my desktop including my email, contacts, IM and other stuff. One thing that I wanted to do was to get the Google Talk status I set on the Blackberry to show up on Twitter. I found a few resources on the net that did it or came close, but ultimately I took a little different track to make it work.

It works by setting up a Google Chat badge and then parsing out the status. Then every 5 minutes a script reads the status in the Chat badge, checks it against a text file we have saved with the last status and if we have something new, sends that to Twitter.

Here is the PHP script. And there is a text file it needs as well (it is blank to start out with.) Rename the php script file from .txt to .php and upload it to your server along with the other text file. Follow the instructions on the script to get it set up and that's it.
